Why does this website exist?

This website was created for The Forum Against Islamophobia and Racism which is an annotation for FAIR. So, it's a place where people who are against discrimination and racism for Islamic people. It also provides information about Islamic people. On the front page of the website it says ' Raise Awareness ' so that is their main aim, having that can be shown to casual browsers who may of happened to have seen that site. It gives them a first impression of what they are about.

How does it attempt to counter and challenge negative media representations of Islam?

FAIR challenges the negative media representation of Islam as it is a forum so people can talk and discuss issues that may be concerning them. They have campaigns that people can sign up too and create their own campaigns so that they can try and stop the negative media representations. They have introduced POSITIVE images of faith so people can get a different perspective of Islam and not what they hear in the media.

The website on a whole is about community and togetherness which is used to challenge the negative representations of the media about Islam. The website has very valid information about the religion and about what they do. Their aim is 'to work towards establishing a Safe, Just and Tolerant Britain in which Islamophobia and racism have no place.'

They have also introduced Media and Culture watch. This means that FAIR's Media & Popular Culture Watch monitors specific incidences of Islamophobia and issues of concern and/or interest to the multi-faith communities in Britain. This is a way  to counter any negative representations.
